🐠 Grow Basil in Water: Easy Guide

🍅 “Propagating Basil via Water”

Rooting basil cuttings in liquid is a straightforward and efficient technique to propagate new plants.

This approach is particularly beneficial if you have a preferred variety that you want to duplicate.

By taking segments and placing them in liquid, you can easily generate new specimens that will possess the same flavor and traits as the original.

To root in liquid, commence by trimming the specimens back to about 4 inches tall. Then, remove the foliage from the bottom 3-4 inches of the stems.

Next, place the segments in containers filled with liquid and set them on a windowsill. Ensure to change the liquid if it gets murky to maintain the health of the cuttings.

This approach works for both fresh specimens and store-bought ones in herb packets 🌿. Even store-bought varieties can be rooted in liquid following the same procedure.

🌺 Maintain Basil Cuttings

Once the segments are in liquid, it is crucial to monitor the quality of the liquid. If it becomes murky, it indicates that the segments are not receiving adequate oxygen and nutrients.

In this case, it is advisable to discard the murky liquid 🫗 and replace it with fresh liquid.

This will guarantee that the segments have the optimal chance of developing 🫚 healthy roots.

🍅 “Basil Transplanting”

After the cuttings have developed 🌱 roots, they can be transplanted into soil. Sun-loving 🌿 herbs should be planted in a sunny part of the garden.

Once planted, these herbs will thrive in a sunny location with minimal additional care required.

🌺 Year-Round Basil

Towards the end of 🌇 summer, these herbs can be planted in containers and brought indoors for enjoyment throughout winter, as they do not tolerate temperatures below 50°F.
